Chiefly Orangeburg County, S.C., land and legal papers; deeds (10 Apr. 1796, 25 Sept. 1800, and 1 Mar. 1803) conveying 312 acres on Edisto River from Ann Richardson to James Sanders Guignard, from James Sanders Guignard to Frederick Rast, and from Frederick Rast to John Ruple and Jacob Stroman [see oversize folder]; will of Henry Buzzard, 27 Nov. 1832; appointment of David Ruple as deputy, 12 Dec. 1843, authorized to collect rents for Orangeburg District; and juror list, 16 Mar. 1844, certifying court cases for which David Ruple served as juror. Other items include letter of administration, 22 July 1845, for estate of John Ruple; bond, 1846, between Samuel Buzzard, administrator of estate of Henry Buzzard, and David Ruple by which Ruple agreed to serve as guardian for portion of estate of Henry Buzzard to be inherited by Ruple's children; and record of fines, 1 June 1849, from regimental court martial held at Williamson, S.C., 28 Apr. 1849, listing names of those convicted, offense, and amount of fine. Also letter of guardianship in equity, 3 June 1853, appointing David Ruple guardian of the share of the estate of their maternal grandfather, Henry Buzzard, due to his four children; and membership certificate, 20 Oct. 1860, certifying A.J. Ruple as a member of the Edisto Rifles [Company "A," 1st Regiment South Carolina Volunteers Infantry]. Letters 20 July 1848, L.M. Jones, Columbia, S.C., to Henry Steury, mentioning the return of the Palmetto Regiment to Columbia following Mexican War and a celebration planned in welcome; and 4 Oct. 1857, A. Johnston, Richmond Factory, Richmond County, Ga., to David Ruple, re the wool trade business, and preparing the wool for the factory. Manuscript volume, 6 May 1889-28 Oct 1893, treasurer's account book for Bethel Alliance No. 651, with terse entries listing payments made and received by this farmers' grange organization, including entry, 13 Sept. 1890, for $35.40 which were "proceeds of an entertainment gotten up to repair and refit School House and Alliance hall," signed by A.J. Ruple, treasurer [volume foldered and shelved with unbound manuscripts].
